G O M I
Following graduating I teamed up of sustainable zero-waste experts to start Gomi, an environmentally-friendly approach to product design aimed at the new generation of millennial consumers.
With bluetooth portable speakers being in the top-three most bought electronics products for the past five years running, I focussed my efforts on approaching this product differently. We questioned if it was possible to design a product which could actually clean up the environment through its product lifecycle - contrasting the norm of everyday products produced and discarded in todays fast-paced world.
Our first product, the Gomi speakers are made using flexible plastics, that are currently not recycled by councils in the UK. This includes packaging, plastic bags, bubble-wrap, milk containers and many more everyday products, which have no other place to go other than landfill or the ocean, poisoning our environment, and eventually our food chain!
We have setup collection points across Brighton, where we collect plastic waste from both commercial and residential properties, and store at our studio in Brighton. We then melt, hand-marble and press the material into moulds to create the Gomi Speaker.
