Representing a shift towards a local economy, where products are made from local materials, manufacturers and should represent local design aesthetic.
These speakers use locally felled Ash, and Bees wax made just a few miles from the workshop. The minimal design and brandingallows the natural material qualities to standout.
This speaker was part of a wider exploration project into materiality, and production of products which are usually seen as factory-produced to a high-end finish. This product highlighted that local production with local materials can be used to make electronics products that would normally only be mass-manufactured on factory lines.
The speakers are completely modular, meaning that if there is a problem with any of the electronic components, it can easily be replaced or repaired. Modularity is currently lacking in everyday electronic products - normally when an object is finished with and thrown out, they can be very difficult to take apart and therefore do not get recycled.
